Heater Hat Drawings
A plan/drawing to facilitate experimenters who are interested in trying to make their own Heater Hats.
This is a drawing Erica Wisner did to facilitate experimenters who are interested in trying to make their own Heater Hats (thanks, Erica!) It’s not quite perfect (e.g., course 2a comes out to the edge of the bottom slab, and the red piece in 2b is set back 1/2 inch to allow for the thickness of the wooden door; also, commercial refractory cement does have clay in it as well as sodium silicate) — but it should clarify the steps shown in the videos.
Since my heater hat was all improvised, you’ll have to piece and fit your own version.
In exchange for the drawings, downloaders are obligated to test and improve the design! (esp. adding removable cleanouts, perhaps the red piece in course 6, +/or the top piece in course 7)
And you’re required to keep us posted on what you make and how you improved it!
